International Crops Research Institute for Semi - Arid Tropics (ICRISAT) Collaborator

The International Crops Research Institute for Semi -Arid Tropics is an international organization which conducts agriculture research for rural develoment, headquartered in Patancheru with several centers and research stations. It was founded in 1972 by a consortium of organizations convened by the ford and the Rockefeller Foundations. Its charter was signed by the FAO and the UNDP.

Project Tittle

Research on Sorghum and pearl millet with emphasis on:

    i. Development of plant by plant test crosses and self to identify maintainers in Nigerian germplasm.

    ii. Creation of network of testing experts and facilities for resistance screening for key pests and diseases of Sorghum and pearl millet in WCA: Stemborers, midge, anthracnose, striga.

    iii. Harnessing pportunities for Productivity Enhancement (HOPE) of Sorghum and Millets.

    iv. Bringing the benefits of heterosis to smallerholder Sorghum and pearl millet farmers in West AFRICA: Establishing a solid foundation for hybrid development..
